The Sainte-Croix Cathedral in Orléans at night
Earlier in the evening, illuminations are sometimes projected onto the facade of the cathedral. Then the projection stops and the facade of the cathedral becomes an imposing black mass.
A striking contrast
This image of the brightly lit Rue Jeanne d’Arc contrasting with the darkened Sainte-Croix Cathedral made a lasting impression on me.
And so, one winter night, I decided to go out, set up my tripod in that spot, and capture the moment with my medium-format film camera.
Why is this photo worth printing?

The empty street lit by Christmas decorations, flags fluttering in the wind, taking on a ghostly appearance, the dark lines of the cathedral, the tones gradually shifting from light to deepest black as you move back into the image and up towards the sky.
All these details make this photo unique and a beautiful image to print.
