How to convert a 120 roll into 620

Converting a 120 format roll to 620

The 620 is no longer produced

Due to insufficient demand, the 620 format is no longer produced. This is unfortunate because certain cameras, such as the Super-Kinax, use this format.

But as the 620 format is just a 120 film rolled in a tighter spool, 120 film can be 100% used after being transfered correctly on a 620 axis.

Converting 120 film to 620 format

Thus, it is still possible to use these cameras by transferring the film from a 120 roll to a 620 roll.

Material needed

  • x1 120 format film
  • x2 620 spools

Using x2 620 spools instead of x1 120 spool and x1 620 spool facilitate the transfer and permits to reduce the risk of a planeity default.

How to proceed

You have to follow steps in absolute darkness to not fog the film.

  1. Transfer the 120 format film on the 620 spool.
  2. To put the film back in the right direction transfer the film previously transferred on the 620 to the other 620 spool.

When you transfer the film from a spire to another, be careful to ensure that there are no creases or gaps between the paper and the film. Be sure that there is no slippage or misalignment between the film and the protective paper. Otherwise you may be facing planeity default later.

If you have done the steps correctly, you will end up with a prefectly functionnal 620 format film !
