The 620 format

Creation of the 620 format

The 620 format appeared in 1932; it is an evolution of the 120 format (1901). 620 format reels have not been produced since 1995, while those in 120 format continue to be manufactured.

This is what the 620 format is. The only difference between the 620 format and the 120 format is its thinner roll.

This improvement over the 120 format was made possible by technological advancements in materials manufacturing, which allowed for the creation of a thinner yet equally strong reel.

The 620 format allowed for the construction of slightly more compact medium-format cameras.

This argument did not convince the majority of camera manufacturers, who continued to use the 120 format.
