A common mistake when choosing a camera is looking for the most powerful one or the one that looks the most professional.
The best camera you can buy is the one you’ll actually want to take with you when you go out. This is what you should keep in mind when choosing one.
As stated in the previous post, I recommend buying a camera that allows you to change lenses.
Digital cameras
The definition of the sensor
You don’t need the latest high-end camera to take great pictures. With anything from 16 to 24 MP, you already have enough resolution to make prints around 30 cm wide. As for sensor size, Micro Four Thirds or APS-C is enough.
Others features
As for features, since we are focusing on landscape photography here, you don’t need any fancy extra modes – every camera will do the job.
A stabilized sensor is also a plus as it will help to eliminate some motion blur and thus improve image quality in low light conditions or while using a telephoto lens. But you can of course do great photos without it.
Film
If you want to shoot film like I do, first you’ll have to understand that you’ll have to put in more effort to get your pictures, which can be discouraging.
Otherwise, choosing a film camera is easier than choosing a digital one: you are not committing to a particular sensor for years. All you have to do is check that everything is working properly and, if it has automatic modes if you think you’ll need them.
Buying a used camera
Buying a used camera is a good idea financially, but make sure it is functioning properly before buying it.
