The Loire River is restless
When you look at the Loire, most of the time you see a calm river.
But with wind, rain, and floods, the Loire can become turbulent, and incidents can occur. Like this boat that has likely broken free from the quay and is now traveling alone.
Observing and reacting quickly
This photo was taken in the moment, as this drifting boat was speeding across the Loire.
It is the result of careful observation of the surroundings. One had to be watching the Loire to see the boat approaching and capture the fleeting window of opportunity—a few tenths of a second—during which the boat was in this position, making this composition possible.
The composition
Indeed, this image would be unworthy of being printed without a successful composition.
The image is divided into three successive layers :
The bare trees in the foreground give depth to the image.
The boat on the left of the image carried along by the current of the billowing Loire.
The mist, which makes the river seem endless, accentuates the boat’s solitude.
