The difference between the YouTube channel and this website
The content on the YouTube channel will not differ in substance from what is published on ElectroCroissant.art. What you’ll find on YouTube will mostly be ElectroCroissant posts adapted into videos.
So, if you can find it on YouTube as a video, you can find it here as text. The reverse is not true. Paid content and posts that don’t translate well into a video will stay on ElectroCroissant exclusively.
So whether you want to read or watch a video, you now have the choice!
Why ElectroCroissant is expanding to YouTube
YouTube is one of the few places on the internet that allows you to reach a real, engaged audience. The idea is to share the content created on this website with as many people as possible and make the website better known.
What you’ll find on the YouTube channel
On the YouTube channel, you’ll find videos about the creative process, composition, analog photography, and the history of photography, along with short reviews of cameras and lenses.
This is true here and on YouTube: 99% of the photographs and filmed sequences on the channel are taken by me. I used to be a seller of photographic gear, this is why I have so much material.
Most of the time, the production process goes like this: I write a post on ElectroCroissant, then I adapt the text for the video.
Some may say it lacks spontaneity, but in the end, I don’t see why producing something more refined is a bad thing.
How is the channel being received?
The feedback is positive
The feedback about this channel is positive (more than 95% likes and good watch-time). The only point that disappoints me is that viewers don’t subscribe enough.
Criticism
Otherwise I haven’t really read any valid criticism of this channel. Only misunderstandings and baseless comments.
Using a synthetic voice
Some people think that because I sometimes use a synthetic voice, AI does everything. It is false.
AI is only reading. The writing, the photographs and video editing are done by me.
But some people remain stuck on this idea and downplay the work behind the videos because of this. So, even though I can’t afford a good microphone at the moment, I will try to use my own voice more often.
Pronunciation
There is also criticism regarding pronunciation. My English isn’t as fluent as I’d like it to be and the AI voice also makes mistakes sometimes. Even if it is a minor point, I’ll do my best to improve in the future.
Comments from grumpy people
There are also aggressive and baseless comments.
I think what really bothers them is that I am quite blunt and say what I really think instead of trying to please everyone. Well, unfortunately for them, I won’t change that.
On the contrary, if you want to add information or correct me, ask me a question, or anything else (here or on YouTube), go ahead. I will be very happy to answer you.
No criticism of the accuracy of the facts
Otherwise, I am quite happy to see that my research and the facts given on the channel are sound and accurate because I never read any comment pointing out factual errors in any of the videos.
Is the channel performing well?
To be frank, even if YouTube is a lot better than SEO or other social networks, I am not satisfied with the channel’s performance. I think it deserves more recognition for the originality of the content about the creative process and composition or the amount of research and fact-checking that goes into my technical videos.
Basically, YouTube’s algorithm isn’t here to recommend videos that actually help you improve; it’s here to feed you addictive content that will keep you spending more time on the platform.
Which is very frustrating for a creator like me.
I have spent the last years thinking about the creative process and composition, how to teach it, and even for my technical videos, I do quite a lot of research and verification.
My videos are more useful than others with thousands of views, but youtube won’t show them to you.
And it goes even deeper, because YouTube often shows you empty and uninteresting videos, you tend to become skeptical of all types of content. That often means that you won’t even take the time to listen to what I have to say but switch straight to the next “funny” video.
Subscribe to the YouTube channel to support ElectroCroissant
This is why subscribing to the channel is important. This will encourage YouTube to recommend the channel to more people and introduce ElectroCroissant to a wider audience. Which is very much needed! Because despite all the work done here, this site is ridiculously little-known.
Don’t hesitate to ask a question or drop a suggestion to improve the channel or anything else in the comments. I will be happy to answer you.
